Airtel Africa and Vodacom Group have entered into a landmark infrastructure sharing agreement across key African markets, including Mozambique, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This collaboration marks a significant step toward enhancing digital inclusion and expanding access to reliable, high-speed connectivity on the continent.

The initial phase of the partnership focuses on the shared use of fiber networks and tower infrastructure. This joint approach aims to accelerate the deployment of digital services, improve customer connectivity, lower operational costs, and increase speed to market for both telecom operators.

By utilizing existing infrastructure, the partnership seeks to deliver faster internet speeds, more reliable network performance, and broader digital access—particularly in underserved and remote communities. This move is expected to play a vital role in narrowing the digital divide in Africa.

“Empowering people through connectivity is central to our mission,” said Shameel Joosub, CEO of Vodacom Group. “Our collaboration with Airtel Africa represents a strategic and forward-looking approach to building a sustainable, inclusive digital future for Africa.”

Sunil Taldar, CEO of Airtel Africa, emphasized the partnership’s alignment with the company’s mission to expand network access to even the most remote areas. “By joining forces with Vodacom, we’re creating greater opportunities for digital and financial inclusion. This partnership will transform the lives of our customers while ensuring full regulatory compliance,” he said.

Despite being competitors, both companies acknowledge the growing necessity of collaboration in building resilient networks capable of supporting emerging digital technologies and increasing demand for data-driven services.
