Fact Check: Orengo hasn’t resigned – ODM clarifies

For weeks, Siaya Governor James Orengo has been missing missing in public domain sparkling water on his health. This prompted to August 4 report in a letter stating that Orengo ha resigned.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has dismissed the letter doing the rounds on social media claiming that Siaya Governor James Orengo has resigned.

In a statement on Monday, August 4, ODM flagged the letter as fake and urged members of the public to ignore it.

We can authoritatively state that the letter below is fake. Ignore it and focus,” ODM stated on an X post

The clarification by the ODM party comes amid growing concern on social media over the whereabouts of  Governor Orengo.

The ODM Governor has maintained a low profile in recent weeks, with some social media users speculating about his health.

Orengo’s last update on his whereabouts was on July 25 when he and his wife Betty Orengo visited the home of home of Mr and Mrs K.V. Rao.

“Today Betty and I spent a wonderful afternoon at the lovely home of Mr and Mrs K.V. Rao,” Orengo posted on his X account on July 25.

Governor Orengo is serving his first term in office as the Siaya county boss, having been elected on an ODM ticket during the August 2022 General election.

The 74-year-old previously served as the Siaya County Senator for two terms between 2013 and 2022.
