The family of Rosemary Muthoni, daughter of Gachau, is in mourning following her tragic death at the hands of her husband.
According to relatives, Rosemary’s life was cut short after a violent confrontation in which her husband accused her of returning home late. He allegedly claimed she had been “supplying electricity to unlicensed grids,” before unleashing fatal violence that ended her life.
Rosemary had recently joined her marriage as a fresh recruit, and those close to her describe her as full of hope and promise. Her sudden death has left her family devastated.
“Even her parents never claimed sole ownership over her life. What gives a man the right to kill?” one relative asked, adding that the family now demands justice and accountability.
Community members have condemned the killing, calling it another case of gender-based violence that robs women of their lives and leaves families shattered.
Activists have urged men facing relationship challenges to walk away peacefully instead of resorting to violence. “If you suspect betrayal, accept the pain and move on. No life is worth ending in anger,” one advocate said.
Police say the suspect has since fled, but efforts are underway to track him down. The family insists that he must face the law for his actions.
Rosemary’s death adds to the growing number of cases of domestic violence in Kenya, which human rights groups warn is a national crisis.
Her parents described her as “an angel whose chapter was closed too soon.” They have appealed to authorities to ensure justice is served and to strengthen protections for women at risk of domestic abuse.
