Israel has accepted a United States proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza that includes the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The announcement was made on September 8 by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar during a briefing in Budapest.
The deal sets out that Hamas would release all remaining hostages on the first day of the truce. In return, Israel would free thousands of Palestinian prisoners and enter negotiations aimed at ending the conflict.
President Donald Trump said Israel’s acceptance was final and issued a “last warning” to Hamas to agree to the deal, stressing that no further negotiations would follow. Hamas has acknowledged receiving the proposal through mediators and expressed readiness to negotiate, but insists on a full end to the war and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Even as the diplomatic push unfolds, Israel has stepped up military operations in Gaza, striking high-rise buildings in Gaza City and ordering mass evacuations. The
humanitarian crisis is worsening, with over two million residents facing famine and displacement. The coming days will test whether Hamas accepts the deal or whether the conflict continues.
