The Joint Military drills that commenced early this week between South Korea and its ally United States is now compelling North Korea to expedite rapid expansion of her nuclear armament . While responding to the joint Military exercises,North Korean leader Kim Jong Un terms them ” obvious expression of their will to provoke war”.

Pyongyang is on record regularly criticizing such drills as rehearsal for inversion and sometimes responds with weapons tests but Seoul and Washington say they are purely defensive.

Kim is now pushing for quick building of a third 5000-tonne Choe Hyon-class destroyer that should be complete by October next year as well as testing cruise and anti-air missiles for those warships .

While reacting on Kim Jong Un’s sentiments, the North Korean analyst at Korea Institute for National Unifications, Hong Min opined that ” through this move North Korea is demonstrating it’s refusal to accept denuclearization and the will to irreversibly upgrade nuclear weapons”.

Efforts by United States and its allies to tackle North Korea’s development of nuclear are expected to be discussed at an upcoming meeting between US president Donald Trump and South Korea
