The Registrar of Companies has announced the dissolution of two firms — Caltex House Service Station Limited, a long-standing multinational oil and motor care company, and Bora Motors Limited.

In a gazette notice dated October 31, Deputy Registrar of Companies Hiram Gachugi confirmed that the two companies’ names have been struck off the official Register of Companies.

“Pursuant to section 897(4) of the Companies Act, it is notified for the information of the general public that the following companies are dissolved and their names have been struck off the Register of Companies with effect from the date of publication of this notice — Bora Motors Limited and Caltex House Service Station Limited,” read the notice in part.

Caltex House Service Station Limited

Caltex, which has operated for more than 75 years, managed over 165 service stations across Kenya. According to the company’s website, it offered a wide range of high-performance lubricants and engine oils designed to enhance vehicle performance under varying driving conditions.

The company underwent major structural changes following its 2009 acquisition by Total Kenya. As part of the takeover conditions, the Competition Authority of Kenya required Total to divest several service stations in towns such as Bungoma, Eldoret, and Litein. These outlets were later sold to the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK) and other local investors, marking a significant shift in Caltex’s business operations.

Caltex traces its roots to 1936, when it was founded as the California Texas Oil Company, a joint venture between Standard Oil of California (now Chevron Corporation) and The Texas Company (later Texaco).

Bora Motors Limited

Bora Motors Limited, also known as Bora Autocare Limited, is a Kenyan automotive service company specializing in vehicle care and maintenance solutions. Since 2012, the firm has been the authorized dealer of 3M Automotive Films and Meguiar’s Auto Care Products in Kenya.

Its services include 3M car tinting, Hi-Mos glass coating, and 3M paint protection film installation. The company also retails a broad range of Meguiar’s car care products to both end-users and professional detailers through its e-commerce platform and a network of branches.

Bora Motors operates several outlets in Nairobi — with its head office on Mombasa Road at Heidelberg House, and additional branches on Ngong Road, and at Garden City and Galleria Shopping Mall. It also maintains a presence in Nyali, Mombasa.

Ongoing Company Deregistration

The move comes less than a month after the Registrar of Companies announced the dissolution of 109 other firms, as part of ongoing efforts to clean up the national companies register by removing inactive or non-compliant entities.
