Reprieve for US President Donald Trump after a New York State appellate court absolved him from nearly half-billion-dollar fraudulence penalty against him.
In February 2024, a trial judge ordered the imposition of the $454 million civil fraud penalty against Trump ,his family members, and his company Trump Organization.
This came after former US Attorney General James Letitia filed a petition dated January 18 ,2022 accusing Trump of falsely and fraudulently valued multiple assets in order to bolster his family businesses.
On Thursday 21st 2025, the appellate division in Manhattan brought a sigh of relief to Trump and his family by exonerating them from their longtime adversary.
However,Record News noted that the Five-judge-bench was deeply splintered as some upholding the imposed penalty while the quorum called for a new trial or even an absolute dismissal.
While giving his response on the verdict, the accused gleefully said “I greatly respect the fact that the court had the courage to throw out this unlawful and disgraceful decision” .
The plaintiffs however vowed not to abdicate but will ask the State’s highest court to review the case . “It shouldn’t be lost to history yet another court had already rulled that the president violated the law and that our case has merit ” . Added Letitia.
