Panic and Sombre Mood as Plane Crashes  in Kiambu, killing 6

Sombre mood engulfed Mwihoko area in Ruiru Kiambu as a small aircraft believed to be operated by Phoenix Aviation and leased by Amref crashes into flames. The shocking incident was witnessed at around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday 07, August.

Kenya Red Cross confirmed the incident in a statement that assured the startled residents of the response of emergency teams .

“A chopper has reportedly crashed in a residential area in Mwihoko, Kiambu County. Response teams are en route to the scene,” read the statement.

Locals who witnessed the crash described the aircraft spinning out of control before hitting the ground with a loud explosion that shook nearby buildings. Some reported seeing people on board trying to use parachutes, but the blaze that followed the impact left them with no chance of survival.

Six; 4 onboard and 2 on ground people have been confirmed dead while the exact number of people on ground still unknown.

Security is heightened as the spot is now under strict saveillance of the military and police who arrived shortly afterwards and secured the crash site while they man the crowds who struggle to catch a glimpse.
