Former international Suleiman Al-Obeid, nicknamed the “Palestinian Pelé,” was killed on Wednesday 06 August 2025, during an attack by Israeli forces against civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in the south of the Gaza Strip.

Aged 41 and a father of five, Al-Obeid left a lasting impression on the football-loving Palestinian people.

He began his career at Khadamat Al-Shati, before joining the Al-Amari Youth Center in the occupied West Bank, and then the Gaza Sports Club.

He scored over 100 goals during his career and he will remain one of the legends of Palestinian football.

According to reports from the Palestinian Football Association and multiple news sources, Suleiman al-Obeid was shot dead by Israeli forces on August 6, 2025, while waiting for humanitarian aid in southern Gaza.

Israel has not issued a specific response to this incident.

UEFA is facing criticism for not clarifying how former Palestine national team player Suleiman al-Obeid has died or naming the Israeli army as complicit in his death while he waited for food aid in Gaza.

Mohamed Salah has long supported Palestinian causes, donating aid and calling for an end to violence in Gaza.

He’s concerned about Suleiman al-Obeid’s death—a fellow footballer killed in an Israeli strike while awaiting humanitarian aid in southern Gaza—highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
